I accidently started reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward about four years ago (well after the series start). I have been slowly checking them off my TBR ever since.

Before reading the first book in the series, DARK LOVER (about the vampire king Wrath), I didn't read books about:

~ Vampires (in any genre)
~ Alpha Males
~ Paranormal Romance

I was a hardcore mystery - suspense - thriller reader. While it is definitely a romance series, Black Dagger Brotherhood also incorporates elements of suspense, thriller, action-adventure, and mythology. I now read about a variety of paranormal beings and have branched into romances featuring alpha males.

I will forever be grateful to J.R. Ward for expanding my reading horizons. I am also a little mad that the expansion has made my TBR list explode. LOL!

Here's J. R. Ward's definition of the Black Dagger Brotherhood.
Black Dagger Brotherhood pr n. Highly-trained vampire warriors who protect their species against the Lessening Society. As a result of selective breeding within the race, Brothers possess immense physical and mental strength as well as rapid healing capabilities. They are not siblings for the most part and are inducted into the Brotherhood upon nomination by the Brothers. Aggressive, self-reliant and secretive by nature, they exist apart from civilians, having little contact with members of the other classes except when they need to feed. They are the subject of legend and the object of reverence within the vampire world. - www.jrward.com

I am reading THE KING (book twelve of fifteen) this month for BiteOber. In it, the Black Dagger Brotherhood "continues as a royal bloodline is compromised by a grave threat to the throne."

Have you read any books in the series?

I have included the "Project Paranormal: JR Ward: Behind the Black Dagger Brotherhood" video series via YouTube at the bottom of this post. Take a few minutes to check it out. Let me know if you decide to give the series a try!

  1. I just finished Rebecca Talley's 'Imperfect Love' and it was fairly enjoyable. It wasn't raunchy or anything, but would recommend for someone looking for a cozy read.
