Conflicted The Existing Series Vol 2
by A.M. Guilliams
#LIVE and only #99cents

Blurb:

I’m passionate, caring, and loyal to a fault. All traits that have gotten me to where I am today.

My future was finally headed in the direction I felt it was always meant to go. Anger fueled my determination for success.  But life was never that easy. I should’ve known better than to think it would all just fall into place. All it took was one freak accident to cause my whole world to pause, teetering on emotions I never imagined were possible. Promises were made; vows I would keep until the day I died.

Delaney Winters came tumbling into my hometown with nowhere else to turn. Something about her calmed the storm that brewed inside of me. I tried and failed to keep myself from attempting to save her. I wanted to be more than just the hero she claimed she didn’t need.

Feelings were never supposed to develop.

Love was never part of the promise.

How far would you go to keep a promise before you crossed the line to love?

My name is Weston Corbin, and this is my story.

Beloved Monster
by Karyn Gerrard

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Historical Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

What makes a man?

The wild and dissolute Viscount Ravenswood lives only for his own pleasure, caring not one wit for the broken hearts left trampled in his wake. But his decadent lifestyle finally catches up to him in a fatal carriage race. It’s an infamous and spectacular end to a brief, immoral life—or is it?

And who is the woman who loves him? When Glenna Parker stumbles upon her c

ousin Reed Parker’s cluttered laboratory, she could never have imagined the mad experiment he is about to embark upon—to bring a man back from the dead. Not just any man, but Ravenswood, who once shattered her heart. With no memory of his former life, Glenna calls him Luke, and finds herself enchanted by his compassion—and passion. Protecting the scarred Luke has become Glenna’s sole mission, but can she protect her heart from her beloved monster?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
Gulping deeply, she stood next to Ravenswood. The eyes appeared   to be as glassy as they did before. However, something was different. They weren’t blue as a summer sky any longer. Instead, they contained nearly all colors of the spectrum, as if the irises had exploded. “Like a kaleidoscope,” she said with wonder.
Thunder still rumbled outside, and heavy rain lashed against the house, the storm one of the more vicious ones she’d witnessed. Without any warning, lightning struck the rod once again, sending another wave of current through the viscount’s lifeless body. This time, the blast nearly lifted him off the table. Reed sprung into action, giving the generator handle another downward thrust. The amount of power running through the corpse lay beyond her imagination. Black burns were noticeable where the wires were attached. Again, visible energy passed through the metal plate on Ravenswood’s head.
Reed stepped back and waited for the body to stop twitching. Sparks caught and flame leapt from some of the wires, spreading to the canvas covering the body. Reed calmly snuffed out the blaze with a piece of fabric.
Glenna felt sick. Physically and morally sick at heart. “Enough. No more. The body will catch fire if you keep this up. It did not work….”
She glanced at Ravenswood, and he stared back at her, his eyes firmly focused on her face. Try as she might, she could not stop the scream from escaping her throat.
He’s alive. Alive.
The Truth She Knew
by J.A. Owenby
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: New Adult, Contemporary Fiction

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Mama didn’t want me. In fact, she would’ve traded my soul back for someone different if God would’ve let her, but he didn’t, so she was stuck with me.
For eighteen-year-old Lacey, life at home is a rollercoaster. She doesn’t think she’ll ever be good enough to truly deserve Mama’s love.
But when Lacey enters college and meets Walker, everything starts to change. Suddenly, Lacey is face to face with the realization that maybe what she’s always seen as normal really isn’t. Her entire life—and everything she’s ever believed about herself and her family—is abruptly hanging in midair.
Lacey is left facing two paths, and she has to make a choice. The first means walking away from everything she’s ever known. The other means never really knowing the truth.
The Truth She Knew offers an honest and powerful glimpse into mental illness, the meaning of true love, and the psychological waltz that a daughter dances as she endures her mother’s unpredictable emotions, manipulation, and abuse.
EXCERPT:
I took my seat belt off and turned to face him. His blue eyes captivated me. I could lose myself in them forever and never care. A soft patch of hair shadowed his upper lip. My gaze lingered as I wondered what his lips would feel like against mine.
“What are you thinking?” he asked and trailed his finger lightly across my cheek.
I blushed and silently cursed my pale skin as I reached for his hand. His fingers intertwined with mine. They were strong, rough, and soft all at the same time.
“I’m not good for you, Walker.” I glanced down, embarrassed that those words had slipped out of my mouth. No way had I intended to say anything like that, but my mouth had a mind of its own. My plan had included ending the night with a thank-you and letting Walker go, but instead, it was turning into a tug-of-war between my heart and my brain.
“Lacey, I highly doubt that,” he replied and squeezed my hand.
“How would you know? We just met.” I dared to glance at him. If he knew what I meant he would kick me out of his car right then, leave, and never look back.
Walker leaned his head against his seat as he ran his free hand through his hair. His eyes settled on my face.
“If we date, you’re going to hear things about me and my ex-girlfriend. You and I share some mutual friends and enemies.”
by M. Kate Quinn
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Why has no place in what the heart knows for sure.
On the eve of their wedding Victoria Gliden and fiancé Owen Walker call it quits. He accuses her of not being able to get over her deadbeat father’s vanishing act when she was a child and she and her cold feet run and don’t look back.
An interior designer, Victoria, has an important meeting on Cancun that could garner her a promotion and the plan was to incorporate her presentation with the honeymoon cruise that’s journeying to the island. Since she’s sure Owen is on his way to Portland to escape the aftermath of their ruined wedding, Victoria takes the honeymoon cruise anyway. Only Owen has the same idea and they’re stuck with each other for six days, five nights.
Tony Gliden, Victoria’s father, dies in a freak accident and is sent back to earth disguised as a crotchety old man with the mission to convince his daughter to believe in love. So, he, too boards the ship.
At sea, destiny takes a detour when Victoria befriends the quirky old man with kind eyes and together they join forces with a quartet of unabashed women in their fifties who drink pink martinis and flirt with the wait staff but are wiser than they look. While trying to dodge Owen, Victoria’s new acquaintances help her face old wounds and confront new fears.
Most of all, Victoria and Owen both realize it all boils down to one word—why?
By journey’s end will two broken hearts get their answer?
EXCERPT:
Two figures, a scrawny-assed man and a brittle-looking woman, sat opposite him at a sleek table, the surface a slab of marble. “Who the hell are you?” Tony’s voice pinged foreign to his ears, distant, echoic.
The man’s lanky arms were knobby like twigs, attached to narrow shoulders, but he sat with the authority of a doctor, his pale hands tented on the marble. His face, sunken-eyed, was somber like he was about to lower the boom to a patient. Tony pushed himself forward and stared the guy down.
“Buddy, uh, care to answer me?”
When no response came from the guy, Tony pulled his eyes over to the woman. Her gray hair was long and silky. Young hair. The healthy mane looked odd on a broad who obviously had a few miles on her with skin like tree bark. She had a clipboard in her bony grasp, her knuckles like rocks under taut sallow skin.
“Either one of you going to speak?” The sarcasm felt good, sharp like a seed of jalapeno on his tongue. “Yoo-hoo.” He looked from one to the other as they sat there like mannequins. “And, what’s with those sweaters?”
They both sported white crewneck sweaters with a red “H” emblazoned mid chest like some kind of uniform. Tony’s gaze slid down to his own garments expecting to see the same indigo jeans and blue striped shirt he’d put on this morning. Instead, he was in a black suit that even he, no expert at such things, knew was a piece of crap. He wore no shoes and one big toe poked through a hole in a navy blue sock. He wouldn’t be caught dead in the getup.
“What the hell?” His words boomeranged off the white walls like a crack of thunder. “How’d I get in this pile of rags and what the hell am I doing here?”
The man at the desk pinned Tony with an onyx stare and screwed his lips into a knot.
“Are you always this grumpy?” The man’s voice was gravelly, like his vocal chords were rusted. His head bobbled like a dashboard toy.
The woman looked up from her clipboard and fixed her cloudy gray eyes on Tony, as well. He felt like a goldfish in a bowl on a shelf. The broad wagged a gnarled accusatory finger. “Come on,” she coaxed in a voice that sounded like she was under water. “Give us a smile.”
A familiar zing raced through Tony, the first sign of life amidst the fog in his brain. He didn’t like being chastised and he didn’t like these two clowns dressed like orderlies, or better yet, soda jerks.
He jolted up from the chair like it was electric and somebody pushed the “on” button. “Grumpy, huh? Tell you what, pal. You ain’t seen grumpy. And, unless you tell me the truth about why the hell I’m here, you’re going to get yourselves a good dose of Tony Gliden losing it. So, one last time, what am I doing here?”
“Tony,” the woman’s voice held a gauzy wrap of gratuitous condescension. “There’s no way to sugar-coat the facts, so put simply, you’re dead.”
AUTHOR INTERVIEW
What group did you hang out with in high school?
This is an interesting question.  Like many of us, I feel like I did it all wrong in high school.  Yes, I got good grades and I had good friends, but I didn’t involve myself much in the activities that were offered.  I think I’d have loved being part of the theatre group or maybe even have gone out for softball.  At the time I used the excuse that I was “too cool” for those things but really I was just afraid of failing.
What are you passionate about these days?
Besides writing, I’m passionate about helping others tap into their creativity.  I do workshops and give talks on this subject.  There are so many people that just want to write and don’t know where to begin.
If you had to do your journey to getting published all over again, what would you do differently?
I’d have started earlier.  Granted, I have been writing all my life but I would have taken myself as a writer more seriously at an earlier age.  I had three kids and a full-time job and writing took a back seat.  If I had to do it all over again I would have found the time.
Ebook or print? And why?
I believe Ebooks and print books both have their merits, so I’m glad I’ve been a part of both.
What is your favorite scene in this book?
The scene at Margo’s Margarita Bar.  It’s a funny scene but, also, a poignant scene.  Lots happens.  It is the culmination of many things.  Fun!
AUTHOR Bio and Links:
Born to a feisty Italian mother and a gentle blue-eyed Irishman, I was given the name “Marykate,” inspired by Maureen O’Hara’s character in the movie, The Quiet Man, an old-time favorite love story that co-starred John Wayne. With a grandmother Catherine and an Aunt Mary the name was an obvious choice.
I've been writing stories all my life. There's an old Macy’s box in my attic filled with my writings from childhood, now smudgy-looking pages produced on my portable Olivetti Underwood typewriter, an eighth-grade gift from my Grandmother Catherine.
I am a recent First Place winner of a short story contest sponsored by Reader’s Digest Magazine and write a column entitled “Boomer Humor” that appears monthly in my neighborhood newspaper.
My husband and I are our own love story. We have a slap-happy middle-aged second marriage with a combined total of six grown children, one delightful granddaughter, another precious little baby on the way and one ridiculously spoiled, amazingly handsome cat named Sammy.
BLURB:
"Control the water, control the world"
From inside the lush expanse of the Inner Realm, the Ghosbane family and their fellow waterlords rule the Joined Realm through their mastery of the ancient aqueducts that feed the vast Drylands beyond their domain. After being accused of a terrible crime, Arlon Ghosbane, the inheritor of a secret legacy of the vanquished overlords of the Joined Realm, is forced to flee from his family and the only life he has ever known. Guided by a renegade howler intent on freeing his race, Arlon discovers that a world far different than one he had been taught about lies beyond his water-rich homeland. The fate of humanity will be determined by the decisions of a young fugitive and a former slave as they fight for the future of the Joined Realm.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT:

“Well done, Artemis-Silver,” Arlon gushed when the howler appeared satisfied that the fracas would not immediately draw more ruffians into the chamber. “T-They intended to k-kill me. In cold blood, throw me from that window.”

Artemis-Silver walked to stand near Arlon, his lupine features impassive. Blood matted the howler’s fur. The hilt of a massive sword stuck up from the scabbard strapped to his back. The creature gazed down upon Arlon, who felt a chill of unease at the look from that imposing form. Artemis-Silver regarded Arlon with a gaze that no howler had shown him before.

“You must get word to the other howlers of what my stepmother planned,” Arlon told him. “These men tried to murder me, and they are holding Kostas prisoner…”

“I did not come here to save you,” the howler told Arlon.

Robert Vane has been writing stories since he was eight. It’s been his full time job for two decades – but not the stories he wanted to write.

Inspired by a lifetime of reading, beginning with “classics” like Privateers, the Amtrak Wars, Darkover, and the Belgariad to name a few (yeah, he’s old), Rob has been pecking away in his spare time. The Joined Realm isn’t the first full length novel Rob has written, but it’s the first that he felt ready to share. Big thanks to Amazon!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT:
'Reynolds? Of MI6?' shouted Marshall Rand, the Inspector General of the US Treasury.
'Yes, agent Patel has confirmed this with that reception desk employee at the hotel
where the memory stick was dropped,' replied Arun Marwah, Director of the India Intelligence Bureau.
Marshall Rand squinted.  'And this employee?  He can swear that he can identify him as the man who actually dropped the flash drive?'
'That is correct, sir.'
Marshall squirmed and mumbled a few things then quickly, but politely, ended the phone call.
Standing up, he put his hands on his hips, walked over to the window and stared down at the mass in motion filled with cars, trucks, and taxis, all crawling along the avenue below the banks, hedge fund hyenas, fancy restaurants, and big office towers.  Above, he could hear the sound of a commercial airliner departing Washington's National airport to the Northeast.  A city humming, entirely greased by cash, credit, money, moolah all created out of thin air by a cartel running the world's private banking operations.  Those that bank on that sexy fiat drug, that fiduciary smack attack that greases the invisible hand, are depending on just one thing, its continual unending supply and endless promise.  Any rapid withdrawal of the punch bowl, and the party's over.  The hooked speculators, opportunists, horders, spenders, trickle downers, everyone in the system, look up to us, all strung out and begging for a chance for a seat, any seat, at the global banquet. But, what happens when it's over?  He began to sweat just thinking about how all civilizations must inevitably go through this when he suddenly noticed the deciduous trees along the park that stood there resolute, having had lost most of their leaves.  Quickly glimpsing the street lights changing from green to yellow to red, he lost himself in his thoughts.  It's a cycle, a historical cycle that not one civilization or empire has ever been able to avoid.  It starts with the warrior stage, heroism, honor.  Next comes the intellectual phase with its laws, order,
justice, art, music, and entertainment.  Society, now cocooned, is able to flourish.  Then, comes the Merchant phase with its rapid wealth distribution, free trade, increases in standards of living, and the development of modern conveniences.  Oligarchs form to control resources, then begin warring.  Greed, selfishness, and avarice marks the end of the stage.  My job, my sole purpose, is to protect the
Intellectual phase and to keep it running, but this noble pursuit has been exposed by history as being inevitably futile.  It's as if there is an inner knowing deep seated in the human mind that senses what comes next.  Chaos.  The final stage of outright theft, civil unrest, and collapse.  All that was built up, falls.  The thieves, these naked emperors, who connived, pillaged and lied to the population are hunted
down and destroyed.  A power vacuum is formed and once again, the warriors assert themselves.  The cycle begins again.
Rand shook his head, then walked back to his desk and pulled up his secured Adobe Connect entering a password.  An entry popped up: London. Private. He clicked on it.
'Sir, I am so sorry to bother you,' started Rand, 'but something serious has come up.'
'Yes, well what is it then?' replied the man with disinterest.  He had a voice and accent much like John Major, the former British Prime Minister.
'I'm sure Eckhart has informed you on what the agency had uncovered in India.'
Silence.
'Well, unfortunately, it goes deeper.” He hesitated. “Much deeper than we ever imagined.”
