As the cofounder with her husband, Carl Apfel, of Old World Weavers, an international textile manufacturing company that specialized in reproducing antique fabrics, her prestigious clientele has included Greta Garbo, Estee Lauder, Montgomery Clift, and Joan Rivers. She also acted as a restoration consultant and replicated fabric for the White House over nine presidential administrations. Irisâs travels worldwide and a passion for flea markets of all sorts inspired her work and fueled her passion for collecting fashion and accessories.

In 2005, she was the first living person who was not a designer to have her clothing and accessories exhibited at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a blockbuster show that catapulted her to fame and a career as a supermodel, muse, and collaborator for renowned brands, from Citroen to Tag Heuer, and global gigs at Bon MarchĂŠ in Paris and the Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. In 2015, acclaimed director Albert Maysles released Iris, his last filmânow an Emmy Award nomineeâto a global audience.

Now, this self-dubbed geriatric starlet, whose irrepressible authenticity, wit, candor, and infectious energy have earned her nearly a million followers on social media, has created an entertaining, thought-provoking, visually arresting, and inspiring volumeâher first bookâthat captures her unique joie de vivre. Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon, contains an eclectic mix of musings and 180 full-color and black-and-white photos and illustrationsâpresented in the same improvisational, multifaceted style that have made Iris a contemporary fashion icon. Astute maxims, witty anecdotes from childhood to the present, essays on style and various subjects, from the decline of manners to the importance of taking risks, fill the book as do lists, both proclamatory, revelatory, and advisory.

All are paired with a bold, color-filled, exciting design that varies from page to page. Here, too, is a treasure trove of never-before-published personal photographs and mementos, mixed with images from top international fashion photographers and illustrators with enchanting, surprising novelties such as Disney cartoons, vintage postcards, the Iris Apfel Halloween costume for children, and more."

Mayor Sonnihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15247881664853513080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5648325619209583093.post-62040018912205666242024-03-01T14:00:00.006-05:002024-03-02T14:25:29.827-05:00Pressing the Pages: Discussion Questions for "Iris Apfel: Accidental Icon" by Iris Apfel | #IrisApfelAlong

Whether youâre a seasoned book club enthusiast or a solo reader seeking fresh perspectives, Pressing the Pages promises to help ignite your imagination and spark lively conversations. I made it with materials that I was able to easily find around the house. In February 2022.

This simple journal has been under my bed, under the sofa, in boxes and finally in a backpack. It has been around the block - literally. But it has never been used.

I intended to use it as a journal to plan for a video series for the Alphabet Tag created by jim's books reading & stuff on YouTube. I didn't finish the journal or the series. The journal still has the letter "A" stuff in it.

When I first created the journal, I didn't have the proper adhesives to attach non-paper materials like plastic and couldn't decide on a cover. Today, I listened to episodes 100 and 101 of the podcast cast while completing some small touches in the journal - including attaching the loose pieces and alphabet beads.

I have gotten into paper beading since I created this journal. A radio report on a political protest. The sight of a steeple. Hay fever. Graduation. A dream. Life itself comes to us in exactly such a jumble of different elements - and often we are left to wonder, what's the connection? To John S. Workman, religion editor of the Arkansas Gazette, the connection is wonder. Musing over experiences like these, Workman discovers beauty, mystery and example. He treats even the commonplaces of our days as special occasions - occasions for learning a little but about ourselves and the world we're in, but moreover about that Being he calls "the Great Surprise."

Now, appearing for the first time in book form, 86 vintage Workman columns are compiled in Fireflies in a fruit Jar. Superbly edited by Sally Crisp, the book is divided into sections like "To Dream of Spring," "Once to the Circus" and "Anchors in the Storm," covering such topics as the seasons of nature and the church, family life, political and social issues, and faith crises. Thoughts on nuclear war lead into verbal snapshots of grandchildren; the challenge of Lent resounds in a hospital stay; a description of a colt nudges us to recall ecology and stewardship; strangers on the freeway who start out as objects of fun end up making us look a little more ruefully - yet hopefully - at ourselves. So the pieces work their magic, radiating together their messages of faith and trust, Like fireflies they "invite us to wonder ... to hold them captive for a time while pondering their fascinating secret." You'll want a copy of Workman's book close at hand. Close enough to fold and ponder long after the summer dusk is gone.

Mayor Sonnihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15247881664853513080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5648325619209583093.post-9102209333180491262024-02-10T09:00:00.334-05:002024-02-12T11:53:42.892-05:00The Griffin's Egg by Cole Poindexter | A Whimsical Fantasy Adventure | #TheGriffinsEgg #NetGalley
The Griffin's Egg by Cole Poindexter

Narrated by Adam Varah

Published by Wild Rose Press

Publication Date: January 15, 2024

Edition: Audiobook, Unabridged | ISBN 9798218969752

Children's Fiction | Middle Grade | Sci Fi & Fantasy

BOOK DESCRIPTION

"Lost in a wild West Virginia forest, Phoebe Gray's world is upended when she finds an irritable goblin named Gnish-Gnash. The whimsical tone of the book adds a delightful charm. It feels like stepping into a magical world where anything is possible. An emphasis on friendship and acceptance resonates throughout the tale. The characters' bonds are heartwarming and easily formed. Phoebe Gray is a courageous young heroine (rising fourth grader) and Gnish-Gnash makes for a colorful goblin sidekick.
Initially, I questioned the choice of narrators. Phoebe is from Illinois (Midwestern region of the United States) and the forest is in West Virginia (Southern/Mid-Atlantic region of the United States). Why does the narrator have a "British" accent? So, I raised an eyebrow and kept listening. Most of the story occurs in Lerch Hollow, a portal realm with magical creatures from multiple cultures. The narrator does a good job with the voices of the characters. Their voices are clear and easy to follow which is important as the book's pace is fast and there are quite a few characters.

The abundance of adventures keeps the reader engaged. From soaring skies to hidden caverns, there's never a slow moment. However, there are so many adventures that opportunities for tension (and sometimes character development) seem to fall by the wayside as the story pushes forward. Unfortunately, the lack of tension diminishes the stakes. The challenges faced by the characters don't always feel urgent. Issues are resolved a tad too swiftly. Some conflicts could have been explored in greater depth for a more satisfying payoff.

Overall, The Griffin's Egg is an enjoyable read, good for those seeking a whimsical escape.

Star Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

Especially Recommended For:

Younger middle-grade readers

Readers who are sensitive to tension or prefer lower stakes

Fans of classic children's literature like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Chronicles of Narnia

* Thank you to Netgalley and The Wild Rose Press for providing an audiobook advance review copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Also available in paperback and ebook formats.

Paperback (ISBN: 9781509253494): Bookshop.org | Amazon.com

Advance Praise

"A magical tale that teaches that kindness is a superpower in every realm."

- Kirkus Reviews

Mayor Sonnihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15247881664853513080noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5648325619209583093.post-86316804385358114162023-12-18T15:01:00.004-05:002024-02-22T18:39:29.087-05:00Announcing The Sweet Southern Reading Challenge 2024 | #SweetSouthernRC

#Readalong March 2024 ~ Sweetwater Creek by Anne Rivers Siddon #SweetSouthernRC
#booktok #reading #readingchallenge #readingchallenge2024

<span face=""arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif"><span face=""arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif">Hey cute-tea!
Now I worked for Alpha Elite Security. If you called me Specialist, Iâd eliminate you before you took your next breath. If you recognized me, it was already too late. I lived by my instincts, and used the resources around me. No target was out of my scopeâŚuntil my boss unknowingly handed me the only assignment that was.

EXCERPT:

After three hours on the road, we make a pitstop.

âAt last!â he blurts, getting out of the car.

Then, I notice something I shouldnât have. My hitchhiker stands with a slight groan, hand pressed against his right side. And as he stands, he reveals the inside of his jacket, and there it isâa shiny gun sitting in his pocket. My paranoid thoughts arenât so paranoid after all.

Itâs not rocket science to figure out where this equation leads. Nobody carries that kind of gun unless they are a criminal.

Iâm going to die, sliced up by a crazy hitchhiker.

Can I handle this?

But then again, heâs hurt. Maybe heâs losing blood; maybe his life is in danger.

And mine?

He enters the convenience store. Itâs almost comical; the way he walks, like heâs invincible. Professional criminal, tough as nails. And here I am, professionally screwed.

I imagine what theyâll say on the six oâclock news: âA young woman was found sliced up so her killer could make a house of cards out of the piecesâŚâ

I canât take my eyes off his form. The man stands tall, arrogant, his badass attitude taped to his face. He feels nothing.

Although, his eyes are more narrowed than before. Heâs a human being. A wounded human being and Iâm a nurse.

I fill up the car while chewing on my bottom lip. He heads toward the back of the building. My heart is pounding, unsure of what might happen next. I might have made a huge mistake. The options before me are unappealingâleave him there, join him, or wait for him to come back and pretend nothingâs wrong. I finish filling the gas tank and pay, trying my best to appear normal. The store is dimly lit and eerily quiet, adding to my growing uneasiness. A knot forms in my stomach as I push the door open, my heart trying to spread my ribs apart.

My eyes dart back and forth as I scan the aisles frantically, grabbing snacks and drinks, not knowing what the road ahead has in store.

As I approach the exit, my heart is in my throat. I canât catch my breath, and I only hear an irregular heartbeat in my ears.

Shit, Iâm having a panic attack.

Time slows as my legs weaken, and unwanted sweat rolls down my neck. My sweaty palms land on the door, but the ground drops from under me. My vision blurs, and I canât breathe.

I canât breathe. Iâm going to pass out. Shit.

My phoneâs ringtone blares. I donât recognize the number.

âYes,â I answer, my voice barely above a whisper.

An old voice comes through the line. I donât recognize that, either.

âIf you value your life, youâll leave him,â the voice growls.

I glare at my phone.

I donât even know if my life has any value at all.

âYou have a few seconds to leave, Miss Milosh.â

The call disconnects, and my eyes flutter to my phone as it chimes again. Another ring announces an incoming text message, but I ignore it. I know what I need to do. I steel myself for the task ahead, fully aware Iâm going to tread dangerous waters. One stop to grab my first aid box, and Iâm thrilled.

Author Bio:

I'm Elsa Jacobs, indie author of contemporary romance from sweet and seductive to dark and gritty. All levels of steam.

A few years ago, I found myself obsessed with a bunch of characters and plots, swirling madness in my mind. The only reasonable cure was to write them all. In less than a year, I had written four draft. I had no intention of publishing because fear held me back, and I put them aside, unsure if they were worth sharing with the world.

Years passed, and I finally mustered the courage to read one of my drafts and spoke to an editor, sending them a chapter. The wait for their response was nerve-wracking.

But, as you can imagine, that one chapter led me on a journey that brought me here. And the story is about to be legendary.

My debut novel, Tale of an Anxious Heart, is a fast-paced and thrilling ride that will keep you on the edge of your seat with its twists and turns. This contemporary medium spice read is not your typical romance, featuring morally gray characters and a steamy, possessive alpha male hero who will leave you breathless.

But don't be fooled by the conventional tropes â My strong female hero is more than capable of holding her own and conquering inner demons as she embarks on a road trip that will change her life forever. Pick up Tale of an Anxious Heart today and discover why it can be challenging to pick up a hitchhiker...

EXCERPT:

Chapter One

I turn the lock on the door and slump against it, sinking to the old oak floor. My sweaty thighs suction to the hardwood so that every time I shift, my skin peels and springs back, leaving me stinging. The phone falls to my side and clatters on the floor. The noise sounds out of place, snapping my brain awake and forcing me back to awareness. Resting my head in my hands, I attempt to steady my breathing and stop my body from shaking. I close my eyes, trying not to think. It doesnât work.

Through the windows across the room, the moon reflects off the lake like a mirror. Thereâs an outline of a loon adrift on the water. Its soft, sorrowful cry fills the silence. My dress hangs off the curtain rod, the epitome of femininity, reaching to the floor and billowing in an opulent cloud of white. Hundreds of hand-stitched Swarovski crystals glisten elegantly in the moonlight.

Even at this moment, such beauty isnât lost on me. A bitter taste fills my mouth, like the tip of a tarnished spoon lingering too long on the tongue, sending a dull ache all the way to the pit of my stomach. Iâm frozen. The throbbing lump in my throat swells painfully, and I canât fight it anymore. Tears fall freely, and I sob as quietly as I can into my hands. I gasp, but it sounds like someone else. A disembodied intruder. A lost soul, grieving in such a way that should only be done in private. Vulnerability rolls through the air, thick like fog, permeating my lungs and heaving my stomach.

My muscles tense at the thought of their prying eyes and saccharine sympathy. At least I have the refuge of this room. No one will try to find me until morning. I glance at the clock on the dresser, 11:43 PM. I have, at best, seven hours to figure this out. How can I decide what Iâm going to do by morning? The simple task of moving from this spot is daunting. My bodyâs unsteady, and my mindâs foggy from the storm of emotions whirling through me. Shame surges above the rest like a rogue wave.

How could this be happening? Now? Why now?

My stomach dances, vying for center stage. I dig my nails into my scalp, curling my fingers around fistfuls of hair and tugging. Iâm so angry at him but also at myself for how pathetic this devastation is.

Resolving to get up from the floor, I stumble to the large four- poster bed. At its foot is a long cream-colored ottoman. It reminds me of a gymnastâs vault. Like I should take a running leap and spring onto the pillows in Olympic form. I slip off my shoes, leave my dress on, and clamber over the ottoman and onto the bed.

Wrapping the duvet around me, I shield myself from the world like a child hiding from pretend monsters that arenât so imaginary anymore. The crystals on my gown wink at me one after another, assuring me that it belongs in a fairytale.

Vainly, I wish time stood still for me. Or maybe it could rewind a few hours, to ignorant bliss. Better yet, go back ten years to before Mark. The loon continues his mocking song. In the lull of its calls, the chirping of crickets fills the silence, then its cry rings out again.

Iâm trying not to be drawn in by the splendor of my dress hanging in wait, fearful of its lure. Its beauty entices, and with it, holds a promise of a life I thought was mine to unfold. Perhaps my life isnât created by my choices, not mine to shape at all. Instead, it reveals itself to me, and I bow to it.

I close my eyes to shut out the dress and all it symbolizes. This promise is broken.

Author Bio:

C.B. London lives in Nova Scotia with her husband and two young boys. Her love affair with words began with poetry at a very young age. She still finds great inspiration in written work that has a rhythmic quality, a cadence to the words that begs to be read aloud.

When sheâs not busy with her family or work, you can find her trying to avoid the endless chores of adulthood, curled up under a blanket (yes, even in the summer) with a cup of coffee, reading or writing. She absolutely loves a rainy day! Romance always finds its way into whatever sheâs writing, and almost always, whatever sheâs reading. If thereâs kissing, sheâs in.

With degrees in Psychology and Sociology, sheâs intrigued by the analysis of social interaction, particularly, attraction, falling in love, and the complexities of intimate relationships. As a contemporary romance and womenâs fiction author, she explores these concepts while torturing her main characters as much as she can, still affording them a happily ever after at the end.

If I Asked You to Stay
Brianna Remus
(Pebble Brook Falls, #1)
Publication date: June 6th 2023
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

For readers of Elsie Silver, Laura Pavlov and Catherine Cowles, fall head over heels for this binge-worthy read of two hearts who have always been destined to come togetherâŚeven after twelve years of being apart.

*****************

We were both orphans.

While Johnny Moore was the product of alcohol and bad decisions, he never let his family define him. And me? Well, letâs just say that my motherâs unwanted pregnancy almost destroyed her family name and leaving me behind was the best decision she ever made.

Johnny and I made a pact all those years agoânever leave. Two simple words that always gave me hope. Something solid to lean on when things got tough.

But I guess promises are meant to be broken. The memory of Johnny walking away on his eighteenth birthday will forever be burned into my heart like a brand.

Ten years of forgetting him. Ten long years of forging my own path and trying to make my dreams come trueâŚwithout him.

Nothing could have prepared me for the series of events that brought me back to Pebble Brook Falls and face-to-face with Johnny Moore. The very man I wanted nothing more than to forgetâŚforever.

And nothing could have prepared me for the man that was the embodiment of my weaknesses. With his towering height, southern accent, and a smile that made me weak in the knees, I was completely helpless against him.

He had been my first for everything, and I mean everything. And even though I knew he was the only person who could break my heart, the moment I laid my eyes on him after ten years, I knew I wanted him to be my lastâmy forever.

The only question was, would he even want me to stay?

Johnnyâs hand cradled the back of my head as he brought his mouth to my ear. âEvery moment weâve been apart, there hasnât been a single second when my thoughts werenât of you. How your blonde strands feel like silk against my fingers. The way your blue eyes remind me of sweet summer days filled with your laughter. And how your cute button nose crinkles when youâre frustrated or thinking too hard about something. But most of allââhis thumb grazed the bottom edge of my lip, tugging it down slightly and I swore an entire field of butterflies flew came to life in my stomachââI missed these pretty pink lips and how they taste like honey pulled straight from the hive.â

I closed my eyes as his hand slid up to cup the side of my cheek and a quiet moan escaped from my lips.

When I opened my eyes again, I said, âComing back to our home made me realize that there is no place Iâd rather be because this is where you are, Johnny. Iâm not staying for a few more weeks just to see what might come of this thing with my motherâs journal. Iâm staying forever to see if I might have a chance of you loving me again.â

A raspy chuckle and then, âDarlinâ, havenât you been listening to a word Iâve said? Since the first time I held your hand in the garden behind the orphanage, and probably even before then, every breath in my lungs, every beat in my heart has been for you. I love you, Willow Mae. Nothing has and nothing ever will change that.â

And then he kissed me. Slow. Tender. With such agonizing gentleness, it brought tears to my eyes because this was what I had held onto for twelve long years of his absence. The song his heart sang to mine when he was nearâand even when he was far, far away.

EXCERPT:

Hidden Justice

In this excerpt our main character, Justice Parish, has been informed via email that the mission sheâs worked on for years is being delayed for another two years. Furious, she charges into the Spy Makers Guild office to confront the boss of The Guildââher adopted mother, Mukta Parish.

Justice

Head full of steam, I march through the Parish empireâs headquarters in Philadelphia blowing past sharp corridors, glass walls, and attractive businesspeople in power suits.

I wonât let Momma put my mission on hold. I donât care about a few complications. This is our best chance to take down a global trafficking ring. We find a way.

I near Mommaâs office and her executive assistantâstraitlaced Lorena of the cotton button-downs and starched pantsuitsâblocks my path to the closed mahogany doors. She crosses her arms. âSheâs busy.â

Huh. A human barricade.

Good thing Iâve been trained for such an event.

I run straight at her. She cries out for me to stop and holds her ground. Kind of what I wanted. Veering left, I lift my booted foot, plant the arch against the edge of Lorenaâs desk, toe into a leap, and vault over her. She ducks and cries out. Instant classic.

I land with a thud. âThanks, Lorena,â I say, pulling open the office door. Sheâs still sputtering vague threats as I close the door with a click.

The satisfied grin slips from my face.

Momma isnât alone.

The manâbuilt like a hot night of unforgettable, wild blond hair like a sandstorm, eyes the color of the ocean after a lazy day in the sun, and beach-bronzed skinâdrives the air from my lungs.

Come on, give a lady a warning. Iâm used to finding stodgy business-type people in Mommaâs office.

Everyone, including blondie, is staring at me, expecting me to say or do something. Like a deer caught in beautiful blinding blue headlights, I stare at the man.

Iâm usually more successful at hiding my feelings, trained in it and all. But this high-pressure situationâJack-be-nimbling Lorena, barging into a business meeting, and finding this perfect hot strangerâhas me off my game.

Sandesh

Hearing the administrative assistantâs loud objection and the thud of something I canât puzzle out I go from corner-office mode to time-to-take-someone-down mode.

A woman burst through the doors.

First thought: I hope I do have to take her down because that body underneath me would make my day. Second thought: Sucks to be wearing a damn monkey suit. Third thought as her eyes sweep my body: There are no thoughts.

Her mischievous dark gaze and the fan and flutter of those thick eyelashes swallow every decent thought from my mind, replacing them with open desire.

â

Broken Promises

In this excerpt, Feeâs long lost love has returned home for her motherâs funeral. Sheâs in an emotionally difficult placeâblaming herself for her motherâs death. Brooks is trying to comfort her, rescue her from her own harsh criticism.

Fee felt the warmth of Brooksâ hand reaching toward her, as if to coax her head up, but he didnât touch her. She lifted her chin.

A knuckle of skin was pinched between his creased brows. âWhy are you so hard on yourself?â

She was being hard on herself? âIâm being honest.â He should try being in her head for two seconds. âYou can try it. I wonât break. Trust me, you can tell me whatever you think about me.â

She kept her eyes pinned to him, open, inviting, and waiting. Drawing in a deep breath, he reached forward, swept his finger lightly across her forehead, down her cheek.

His touch, electric and warm, sizzled through her with breathtaking speed. His pupils dilated. âQuerida, you are a song that my heart never stopped singing. And when Iâm with you, the music is everywhere.â

The rich tone of his voice caressed her senses. Warm delight prickled her skin. Sheâd meant mean stuff. Kind stuff⌠well, she had no defense for that. But she would not cry. Not in front of him. But maybe something elseâŚ

Tiptoeing, she did something that, an hour ago, wouldâve seemed unforgivable.

She lifted her face to his and kissed him.

Sheâd intended to catch and release, but the second she met his smooth, full lips the need that had been burning in her for eight long years erupted. She fisted his shirt, pushed her tongue boldly through his wet lips and into his warm mouth.

A surprised pause was followed by him gently tugging her hands from his shirt.

She let go, put her arms around his neck, and held him in place. So good. So Brooks. So long denied.

The hot heavy length of desire unfurled inside her and she disappeared into that need.

With a groan, he wrapped his arms around her and dragged her closer.

Their low sighs and grinding bodies left no doubt what would happen next if they kept it up. Maybe thatâs what she wanted. Maybe, forgetting this way would be best.

He pulled back. âFeeâŚâ Catching his breath, he disentangled her arms from his neck. âIâm sorry. I shouldnât have⌠Iâm sort of seeing someone.â

Oh, my God. She snatched her hands from inside his. Of course, he was. He was a beautiful man. Kind and⌠beautiful and⌠Oh, my God.

She covered her hot cheeks with her hands. Why hadnât she asked? Why had she just assumed it was okay to kiss him? âNo. Iâm sorry. IâŚâ

His eyes filled with regret and maybe pity. Two things she frantically didnât want to see. She didnât know where to look. She snatched the coat he still held in his hand. âLetâs go.â

She raced down the hall into the foyer, head spinning.

Brooks caught up to her and grasped her arm. âFee. Wait. Please.â

She pulled away. Held up her hand. Shook her head. That motion, along with the overwhelming scent of rose and lily condolence flowers, flipped her stomach. âI canât, Brooks. Whatever it is you need to say about that kiss, about the woman youâre dating, about usâŚ.â She willed her voice not to break. âNot today. Let just go. Okay?â

EXCERPT:

She strode around the fence and out onto the orchardâs ground. The creature in her pocket shifted around and around and a growly squeak sounded. Etoiny lifted a pocket flap and peeked inside. The creature had curled up and growled again at the streak of light shining in. Streaks of weak steam puffed out.

âPlease give me some space to think,â she told Morem without looking up. âHalf a dozen steps, if you please.â

âNo.â

Etoiny snapped her head up at Moremâs response.

âI need to know whatâs going on with that thing.â He peered at her pocket. âYouâve not been yourself. Sure, youâve always spent large amounts of time in your room, and this must be difficult for you.â He gestured to the figures walking away from them. âBut youâve brushed off those that care about you, hardly seen the sun, and itâs been two days since youâve asked me for our daily riddle.â Hurt leached into the last part of his sentence. He bumped her elbow with his fingertips and directed her to a far blossom tree. âI discovered it with you. Donât you trust me?â Heâd not said so many words in one speech in a long time.

âOf course, I trust you. I just wanted to figure some things out before I told anyone about it. Before the Science Societyâs admittance presentations.â

Morem stood straighter. âAnd have you?â

Etoiny glanced at her shuddering pocket. âNot a lot.â

âDonât you think that if the two of us looked, weâd cover more ground? Gather more information?â

âPerhaps.â Etoiny drew out the word, thinking hard about Jayaâs actions. âAlthough, I have cause to believe someone knows and is trying to steal it.â

âWell, we wonât let them.â

Moremâs rich brown eyes and stoic expression swelled guilt in her chest.

Entirely
Talya Blaine
(Transformation Series, #3)
Publication date: April 25th 2023
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

ââŚthe deep interplay between the two main characters adds a special intimacy to the novel.â -Publishers Weekly BookLife Prize

âa fantastic storyâŚwith many surprises and exquisite intimacy. âŚan excellent read for romance fans and anyone new to the genre.â -Literary Titan

A startling revelation. A secret that speaks to who we are and who we hide. A choice that forces one heartbreaking question: Can their love survive?

Quinn and Jonathanâs journey continues in Entirely, the third novel in the Transformation series. Outfitting a wedding barn and planning Beccaâs reception has Quinn furiously busy andâexcept for a stinging writing rejectionâoptimistic. Jonathan watches her self-protective walls crumble as their relationship begins to bloom.

Until Octavia calls with an urgent plea.

Quinn canât refuse Octaviaâs request, while Jonathan sees red. The erotic arrangement she proposes to make it up to him yanks him straight out of his comfort zone. He rises to the challenge, though, taking them to stratospheric heights of pleasure and closeness.

When a shocking discovery forces Quinn to make an impossible choice, will their story end with a chasm of hurt and betrayal between them, or can they find their way back to each other?

Intensely intimate, sensual, and emotional, Entirely concludes the first Transformation trilogy. (No cliffhanger.)

⢠Friends to lovers, slow burn, second chance, fish out of waterâreaders will click with the themes in this edgy contemporary romance.
⢠Third-person, alternating points of view
⢠Characters over 40 and a sexy beta hero

Note: Mature themes, strong language, dungeon and super-steamy open-door bedroom (among other places) scenes. Entirely is Book 3 in the Transformation series; the novels should be read in order.

Q&A with Talya Blaine:

What was your favorite scene or theme in Entirely to write?

My favorite scene to write was the one in which Quinn and Jonathan are standing in her kitchen in the early hours of the morning, after Beccaâs wedding reception. They listen to Beccaâs voicemail and then they go to bed. Funny, sexy, intimateâand before the realization of a secret that threatens to pull them apart. Writing that scene was a pleasure.

What was the hardest part of the story to write?

Without spoilers, it was when Jonathan makes his âdiscovery.â I felt terrible for him because I knew he would feel so utterly betrayedâit was hard to write the scenes where heâs trying to process what happened.

Entirely completes the first trilogy of the Transformation series. Whatâs next?

Plans are underway for the release next year of some shorter, lighter, funnier stories, more like sexy rom-coms. And with the chemistry between Quinn and Jonathan, as well as all the twists and turns I imagine their lifeâand the other charactersâ livesâtaking, expect to see more of them soon.

Whatâs at the top of your TBR (to be read) pile right now?

The pile is high and always growing but since Iâve been writing a lot lately, I havenât had as much time to read. Also, when Iâm writing fiction, the stories and characters really inhabit my life (or I, theirs), and itâs hard for me to get into other stories and worlds. That said, Iâm excited because next up are:

The Golden Spoon by Jessa Maxwell, a locked-room whodunit on the set of a British reality TV baking show. (Big grin)

Winterâs List by Jordyn Kross, a mĂŠnage tale about a law-school graduate who meets two sexy strangers on a flight to the Caribbean.

Warâs Peace by Raisa Greywood, the first Club Apocalypse novel. Iâve been wanting to check out more of these last two authorsâ work since reading their short stories at the end of 2022 in a Holiday Shorts anthology.

Last but not least, Big Swiss by Jen Beagin. Transcriptionist for a sex therapist falls for one of his clients and the two accidentally meet IRL? Iâm in.

We Are All Villains Here
Quinn Blackbird
Publication date: July 1st 2023
Genres: Adult, Dark Romance, Romance, Thriller

From the author of the DARK FAE comes this *dark slasher romance* in vein of our beloved 90s Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

Sailors Bay has a bit of a problem⌠a serial killer problem.

What should be a sleepy old fishing townâa place so silent and forgotten that it slips off the mapâhas murder in the air and secrets poisoning the heart of the town.
Here⌠no one is safe when a masked killer starts terrorising the town.

Blood Hood is coming after them: Billieâfrom the wrong side of the tracksâand her friends⌠The ones who have a deadly secret of their own, one they kept for seven years⌠a dark secret that Blood Hood seems to know all about.

One by one, Blood Hood hunts them down to avenge the murder that started it all.

And Billie finds herself running from Blood Hood as well as the love of her life and ex, Dalton.

With slashed-up bodies piling up all over, Billie flees more than a masked killer⌠Dalton hunts her to every corner of Sailors Bay, intent on stealing her back⌠whether she wants him to or not.

Love is meant to flourish. Poison corrupts.
Poison is all I know.

We are all villains hereâŚ.

â

EXCERPT:

Prestonâs lashes lower over coal-black eyes. His pink upper lip curls as he rounds on her.

Billie just watches him.

Her eyes are dead⌠or they should be, because thatâs how she feels inside⌠but then she feels the warmth of a tear run down her cheek.

She doesnât so much as swat at the tear.

Itâs too late to try and hide it. Heâs seen itâhis gaze shifts to her cheek for a mere millisecond before he comes to a stop in front of her.

Her back presses a tad harder against the refrigerator as his hand presses against it, right next to her head. âSo,â he repeats, towering over her, âwhy donât you start telling me the truth, Billie? You owe me that.â

Billieâs lips twitch with a smirk.

Liquid courage? Pushing him away? She doesnât know anymore.

And yetâ

She smirks. âI donât owe you shit, you rich entitledââ

It happens too fast for her to see it coming. But in a blink, his hand pulls back from the fridge, clenches into a fist, then smashes right into that same spot, right next her head.

Billie flinches. âWhat the fuââ

âYou owe me everything!â he shouts down at her.

In this moment, his want to break her, it was more than a passing craving, a fleeting urge. Rather it was surging up inside of him, blood boiling and crashing like furious waves, an all-consuming need.

She could read it in his blazing eyes.

He adds darkly, âAnd I owe you everything I fucking have, you selfish bitch, you good-for-nothing alky.â

Her eyes widen, turn wild with the same rage that snarls her lips. If he braces himself for rotten, rancid words aimed his way, then he braces himself wrong.

Billie jerks her head forwardânot with a headbutt, with a spit.

She spits right at him, and the gloss of it catches his cheek.

Prestonâs lashes lower, his eyes shut.

Heâs still for a beat, a statue with a fist pushing into the refrigerator door, his other hand fisted at his side, and a wad of spit on his cheek.

He lifts his hand.

Slowly, he opens his eyesâand looks right into her fucking soul with the kinda promises, the kinda threats that only the devil can make.

This time, she canât fight her tremble. It runs up her spine, but she lifts her chin and meets his stare dead-on.

Bring it.

Instead, he touches his fingers to the spit⌠He wipes it away in one swift move, then brings it to his mouth.

Their eyes stay locked.

Her jaw tensesâ

And he licks his fingertips.

Billie and Preston have had fights before. Some real nasty shit. Wouldnât be a lie to say sheâs hit him with a vase or two before. Or tried to clip him with her truck.

Some real nasty shit, sheâs never denied that.

But never⌠never before⌠has she been afraid of him.

Not like this.

She swallows, hard. A lump in her throat, swelling. Tears in her defiant eyes, flowing.

Billie flinches with a yelpâ

Preston snatches her by the neck.

With one hand, he pins her against the refrigerator. His body shoves against hers, his other hand grabbing the meat of her thigh, hard. Her skin screams in protest, but before she can utter a word, heâs hiking her leg over his hip and crashing his mouth down on hers.

Her shout is muffled, almost silenced, by his mouth. A kiss that tastes of her tears and his rageâof their poison.

A poison sheâs so fucking addicted to.

Teeth aching, and the back of her head pulsating against the hard, dented refrigerator, Billie hits out at him. One hard fist to the side of his head.

It doesnât stop him. He only shoves her up the cold door, off the floor, and his mouth twists against hers.

âI fucking hate you,â he growls andâhand abandoning her thighâreaches down for her pajama shorts. With a single tug, he rips them apart, between her legs, right at her core.

And jolts of electricity fire through her.

Billie gasps something breathy into his mouth.

Tell me again.

Tell me how much you hate me.

Tell me anything but love.

Why separate the ink? Because while Ines imbues magic and fantasy into her stories, NS will only spin reimagined fairytales, folklore and myths in the small town of Grimmâs Valley.

EXCERPT:

âPleaseââ I tried to say, but the knife tightened, cutting into the soft skin of my throat. I felt something warm trickle down my chest. Blood. My blood.

âSheâs bleeding, you fool,â Baudwin exclaimed. âYouâre hurting her.â

âHurting the Pendragon fae-blooded bitch? The tainted heir?â The man holding me gave a nasty chuckle. âAnd you expect me to care whenââ

Abruptly, his words ceased.

The knife against my throat slid swiftly away, nearly cutting me again as it fell to the ground still clutched in the manâs hand.

I turned to see my would-be-captor lying on the ground with an arrow through his chest and blood spilling from his still-open mouth.

Behind me, Baudwin and the other man were shouting to one another in confusion.

I didnât know whether to face them, join them, or run out of the alley. Before I could finish deciding, I heard the sound of pounding hooves, then caught a glimmer of steel flashing past me.

I fell back against the wall of the alley as a stallion sped past me. I glimpsed a man in the uniform of a Royal Guard sitting tall and upright in the saddle, his weapon drawn and ready.

The shouts behind me rapidly became screams.

By the time I had stood up again, it was already too late. Baudwin and the cloaked man were crumpled on the ground, blood pooling around them.

I stared at their bodies, horrified.

The guard on the horse dismounted quickly and strode towards me, gripping me by the shoulders.

âAre you all right? Did they hurt you?â

I recognized the voice. I forced myself to focus.

The white linen and black leather of the guardâs uniform. The glint of a silver ring in his ear. Dark hair falling over his brow.

I pulled away from Kairos Draven as hard as I could, stepping backwards until I hit the wall.

âYou,â I said in disbelief. âYouâve killed them all. Why? Why did you do that?â

I Used to Be Fun
Melanie Summers
Publication date: April 14th 2023
Genres: Adult, Womenâs Fiction

âInsightful, entertaining, and satisfying. A deliciously dishy look at a typical American family behind closed doors.â ~ USA Today Bestseller Whitney Dineen

âA life-affirming emotional rollercoaster. Perfect for fans of Whereâd You Go, Bernadette!â ~ USA Today Bestseller Kate OâKeeffe

A richly satisfying family dramedy for any woman who has asked, âWhose life is this?â

Jessica Holloway is miserable. As mom to two ungrateful, almost-grown children and wife to one appreciative-but-needy husband, she has all-but-abandoned the extraordinaryâand extraordinarily funâwoman she used to be.

She may be smiling while she volunteers at the schoolâs dog wash fundraiser, but inside, sheâs seething. Having traded her future as a high-powered attorney for motherhood nearly two decades ago, sheâs now desperate to reconnect with the woman she once was.

Pushed to her breaking point, Jessica is secretly terrified at what she might do.

Go on strike permanently?

Take the dog and run away to Mexico?

Tell her mother-in-law what she really thinks of her?

Whatever it is, itâs going to be a disaster. Because this time, Jessica will stop at nothing to get her power back â no matter the cost.

EXCERPT:

She was bored. No, not bored. How can someone so busy be bored? It was more like disconnectedâslightly separated from everything and everyone around her. She didnât see the point of any of it, which seemed ridiculous because on paper, Jess had it all. A healthy, mostly-happy family, a part-time job she didnât mind going to, financial security, good friends. It was enough that she felt guilty wanting anything more. But that didnât change the fact that she did want more. She wanted to live. Some other life. One that amazed her or, more accurately, one in which she was amazing. Before she was Jessica Halloway, she was Jessica Saunders. And Jessica Saunders was supposed to be extraordinary. She was going to do something important in this world, like run a Fortune 500 company or be a high-powered attorney. Sheâd be out in the world making her mark and people would say, âThere goes Jessica Saunders. Look at her. So determined and talented, not to mention dressed to kill.â Jessica Saunders had actually settled on going to law school, and had even scored in the top five percent in the country on her LSAT. But then she got married and she and Mike decided he should focus on his career first, since he already had his degree and only needed to sit for the exams to get his Chartered Professional Accountant designation. But then Winnie came along, followed by Noah, and pretty soon, sheâd forgotten all about picking up her studies where sheâd left off.

That had happened so long ago, she completely forgot that she used to be thrilled by it all. Jess Saunders was one of those enthusiastic, take-life-by-the-horns sort of girls. The life of the party. Sheâd dance all night, sheâd laugh all day. She was witty. Smart. Great at banter. People were drawn to her. She loved everything. Impromptu trip to Mexico? Iâll grab my passport. Sex? Yes, please. Plenty of it. Mountain mud pie with caramel sauce for dessert? Hand me a fork.

Jess missed her. She really, really frigging missed her. She knew that impressive young woman was buried somewhere inside her. She must be there, right? So, where was she?

Author Bio:

Melanie Summers also writes steamy romance as MJ Summers.

Melanie made a name for herself with her debut novel, Break in Two, a contemporary romance that cracked the Top 10 Paid on Amazon in both the UK and Canada, and the top 50 Paid in the USA. Her highly acclaimed Full Hearts Series was picked up by both Piatkus Entice (a division of Hachette UK) and HarperCollins Canada. Her first three books have been translated into Czech and Slovak by EuroMedia. Since 2013, she has written and published three novellas, and eight novels (of which seven have been published). She has sold over a quarter of a million books around the globe.

In her previous life (i.e. before having children), Melanie got her Bachelor of Science from the University of Alberta, then went on to work in the soul-sucking customer service industry for a large cellular network provider that shall remain nameless (unless you write her personally - then she'll dish). On her days off, she took courses and studied to become a Chartered Mediator. That designation landed her a job at the R.C.M.P. as the Alternative Dispute Resolution Coordinator for 'K' Division. Having had enough of mediating arguments between gun-toting police officers, she decided it was much safer to have children so she could continue her study of conflict in a weapon-free environment (and one which doesn't require makeup and/or nylons).

Melanie resides in Edmonton with her husband, three young children, and their adorable but neurotic one-eyed dog. When she's not writing novels, Melanie loves reading (obviously), snuggling up on the couch with her family for movie night (which would not be complete without lots of popcorn and milkshakes), and long walks in the woods near her house. She also spends a lot more time thinking about doing yoga than actually doing yoga, which is why most of her photos are taken 'from above'. She also loves shutting down restaurants with her girlfriends. Well, not literally shutting them down, like calling the health inspector or something--more like just staying until they turn the lights off.

She is represented by Suzanne Brandreth of The Cooke Agency International.
