Nora and the feisty feline Nick are back and better than ever!
~Bibliophile Reviews

Crime and Catnip has several strengths – strong writing by T. C. LoTempio, lots of interesting characters, elements of international intrigue, a mystery that is complex and well plotted.
~The power of words . . .

This book is a real brain twister and while it isn’t your typical cozy thanks to international intrigue cryptic codes, it’s a must read for anyone who has followed Nick and Nora’s story from the beginning…and if you haven’t, what are you waiting for???

Crime and Catnip (A Nick and Nora Mystery)

Cozy Mystery
3rd in Series
Berkley (December 6, 2016)
Mass Market Paperback: 304 pages
ISBN-13: 978-0425270226

Nick and Nora aren’t just pussyfooting around this time as they deal with a missing person’s case and murder.

While catering a gala for the Cruz Museum, Nora Charles agrees to look into the disappearance of director Violet Crenshaw’s niece, a case previously undertaken by her frisky feline friend Nick’s former owner, a private eye whose whereabouts are also currently unknown.

As Nora and her curious cat Nick pull at the string of clues, they begin to unravel a twisted tale of coded messages, theft, false identities, murder, and international espionage. Nora dares to hope that the labyrinth of leads will not only help them locate the missing young woman, but also solve the disappearance of the detective. That’s if Nora can stay alive long enough to find him…

My Thoughts

I was so excited when I saw the email for this book tour in my inbox. I am fan of The Thin Man movie franchise (Nick and Nora).

I saved Crime & Catnip to read for the Benchathon Readathon reading task: read a book from an author that's new to you. The cozy is the third book in the Nick and Nora Mystery series.

Both the series and the author were new to me. Thankfully, Crime & Catnip reads well as a stand alone story. I was able to quickly get up to speed with the setting and characters.

I was pleasantly surprised by how involved Nick, the cat, was in helping Nora in her search for answers. Nick is not an armchair cat that just "happens" to be in the room when key events occur. He holds up well as a main character and side-kick to Nora.

I have asked for copies of the first two books in the series for Christmas. I have been really good this year so I expect to find them in my stocking :) The mystery surrounding the disappearance of Nick the P. I. (Nick the cat's previous owner) appears to be a running secondary plot throughout the series. I am bag fan of layered stories so I want to have all of the clues.

Crime & Catnip is a highly entertaining read offering a blend of cozy mystery and suspense - with a clever feline to boot! I'd recommend this book to fans of mysteries and cozy mysteries. And of course, fans of stories featuring cats.

I believe suspense readers would also be intrigued as they watch Nick and Nora "unravel a twisted tale of coded messages, theft, false identities, murder, and international espionage."

I made one of the sandwich recipes from the back of the book, the Emma Stone Capri Sandwich. Yum! It was so delicious. I will try to remember to take some pictures the next time that I make it.

Be sure to stop by StoreyBook Reviews (see December 5 stop at the bottom of this post) to enter for a chance to win a print copy of Crime & Catnip.

I was provided an opportunity to read this book as an advanced reader copy in return for a fair and honest review.

About the Author

While Toni Lotempio does not commit – or solve – murders in real life, she has no trouble doing it on paper. Her lifelong love of mysteries began early on when she was introduced to her first Nancy Drew mystery at age 10 – The Secret in the Old Attic. She (and ROCCO, albeit he’s uncredited) pen the Nick and Nora mystery series from Berkley Prime Crime – and in Spring 2017, the new CAT RESCUE mysteries from Crooked Lane! She, Rocco and company make their home in Clifton, New Jersey, just twenty minutes from the Big Apple – New York.
