AUTHOR INTERVIEW
Advice you would give new authors?
Keep trying. Don’t give up. Do plenty of research. Find your voice. Edit, edit, edit. And then edit some more.
What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading Blood and Salt by Kim Liggett.
How long have you been writing?
I started back in 2011-2012 so it’s been about 5-6 years now.
What is your writing process? For instance do you do an outline first? Do you do the chapters first?
I used to skip the outline process at first and write chapter by chapter and work from there, allowing the story to take me wherever it wanted.
Nowadays, I tend to sit back and reflect on the stories more and more. I keep a notebook near me at all times so that I can write down tidbits, notes, ideas, new concepts, etc. This helps me stay on track with any changes I might make. I still don’t outline a book from start to finish, but I’ll outline several chapters and take it from there. Sometimes I’ll notice that I don’t stay true to my outline and will change things when I start writing because what I wrote previously doesn’t appeal to me anymore or it doesn’t read well.
I’m always open to challenging myself so I push myself to think outside of the box and play around with ideas as see where it takes me.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Deliverance?
Tiger is product of an experimental project conducted at the Radcliffe Institute. He is aware of his supernatural abilities, but he doesn’t know what he is, only that he’s not human. He doesn’t understand humans and doesn’t trust them for reasons that are detailed in the opening scene of the first chapter and throughout the book.
Kristina is a stubborn, bold country girl without a care in the world. She loves and holds a lot of respect for her grandmother, Rose, whom she has a special relationship with.
Do the characters all come to you at the same time or do some of them come to you as you write?
The main characters are always fully envisioned and patted down before I begin the story. If I don’t know who they are, what they’re like, and what they want or strive for I can’t get anything done. To me, it’s very important to develop the characters before I even make any progress on the plot.
The secondary characters come as I move forward with the story, a lot of the time they come to play important roles in the story and I end up falling in love with them same as with the main leads.
What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
It depends on where the book is set and if any of the characters came from specific locations. I’ll scour the net and read books for information pertaining to states, historical events, and even for names around that correspond to the eras when these characters were born and raised. I won’t move on until I have all the necessary information catalogued and as accurate as possible.
Describe yourself in 5 words or less!
Introverted. Caring. Responsible. Imaginative. Overthinker.
How did you come up with the concept and characters for the book?
The concept was one I tossed back and forth here and there because there was a lot that had to be tied into the story for it to hold a good degree of mystery yet make sense at the same time. I went with some ideas then changed them later because I didn’t like the way the plot was going.
But the basics for this concept was to do something that was more out of my comfort zone and think outside of the box. The male lead was a bit different from the male leads from my other books and I liked that. He took on a role that was more shy and submissive than the female lead due to his difficult childhood, yet, he was strong and dominant when he needed to be.
There’s so much to him, so many layers to be peeled off one by one and as I wrote, I enjoyed developing him, building him up little by little. It was a fun process, one I hope to continue working on with the sequels.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
It was fun to write. I enjoyed the characters so much, I felt as if they were right there with me the entire time, whispering in my ear exactly what I needed to write. The plot kept me moving forward and engaged, like the kind of books I like to read.

I really like that the main characters have to find a way to work/be together and help each other despite trust issues, it sounds interesting (and Corrupt system: so relevant!)
