Barnabas Tew and The Case Of The Missing Scarab by Columbkill Noonan is on book tour with Great Escape Virtual Book Tours and stops at Readeropolis with a character interview.
Barnabas Tew is a private detective struggling to survive in his trade in Victorian London. Fearing that he is not as clever as he had hoped to be, he is plagued by a lack of confidence brought on in no small part by his failure to prevent the untimely deaths of several of his clients.
Matters only get worse when Anubis, the Egyptian God of the Dead, is referred to Barnabas by a former client (who perished in a terribly unfortunate incident which was almost certainly not Barnabas’ fault). Anubis sends for Barnabas (in a most uncivilized manner) and tells him that the scarab beetle in charge of rolling the sun across the sky every day has been kidnapped, and perhaps dismembered entirely.
The Land of the Dead is in chaos, which will soon spill over into the Land of the Living if Barnabas – together with his trusty assistant, Wilfred – cannot set matters to right. Pulled from his predictable (if unremarkable) life in Marylebone, Barnabas must match his wits against the capricious and dangerous Egyptian gods in order to unravel the mystery of the missing beetle and thereby save the world.
Columbkill Noonan has an M.S. in Biology (she has, in turn, been a field biologist, an environmental compliance inspector, and a lecturer of Anatomy and Physiology). When she's not teaching or writing, she can usually be found riding her rescue horse, Mittens, practicing yoga (on the ground, in an aerial silk, on a SUP board, and sometimes even on Mittens), or spending far too much time at the local organic, vegan market.

Character Interview
What is your current state of mind? Oh dear, well, I suppose I’d have to say a bit flustered, to tell the truth. I get so very nervous in these interviews, you know. It’s rather difficult to adjust to being considered a successful detective, as opposed to, well, not.
What you do/will like best about the other main character(s)? That’s easy. It is Wilfred’s steadfastness that is his greatest quality. He is loyal and dependable, and has saved me from more pickles than I can possible count.
Complete the following sentence: I am the kind of person who ____will do anything for duty. I may be a bit nervous, and I may startle easily, but when it comes down to it I will do anything to accomplish the task at hand. Oh dear, I hope I haven’t come off as bragadocious just now, have I?
What early event shaped you the most? Well, it’s not really an early event, per se, but I’d have to say that being attacked by an actual mummy is perhaps the most momentous moment of my life.
If you could go back in time for one day, where would you go? I would go to the day Wilfred and I stayed at the Grey Mouse. Such wonderful…er, cheese platters. Yes, I was thinking only of the cheese platters and no one, I mean, nothing else.
What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you? Again, we are back to the mummy incident, I’m sure. I can only imagine the looks on the faces of whomever found me. It must have been a terribly mortifying sight! Although I suppose there wasn’t anyone there to see it, or else it mightn’t have happened at all, would it have? Can something be embarrassing if no one sees it but you?
What is your most treasured possession? My intellect. I am quite a bit smarter than your average fellow, you know. My deductive skills are quite extraordinary. You can ask Anubis on that. I’m certain he would concur, even if Wilfred and I did cause just a few small mishaps while working the case for him. Really, they were barely anything to speak of at all, especially when you try your best to forget them.
