GENRE: Contemporary Romance

That guy—the one that most girls would run away from—captured Kara’s attention and wouldn’t let it go. As expected, he turned out to be a player. So she cut him off.

But he wasn’t done with her yet. He waited until the memory of their start would have been forgotten—at least, softened a bit. Then he returned to her life, and captured her heart.

Finally blissfully happy, they fall in love and decide to make it official…until his past catches up with him and he destroys her again. But this is it…this is the last time she’ll fall for him.

And she keeps telling herself that until she almost believes it.

This book is for mature audiences.

Chapter 9

A few minutes later, I heard the door open again.

“That was quick,” I said while shuffling cards, not paying attention to Anna’s return. But it wasn’t Anna. It was Naheed…he walked around the corner, and leaned next to me, putting a hand on the back of my chair.

“You forgot your drink,” he said, setting the drink down in front of me while keeping his hand on the back of my chair, essentially enclosing me in his arms.

“Thank you.” I felt the heat emanating from him and I know my face was bright red. I couldn’t breathe. Butterflies were storming around my stomach.

“You’re welcome. Aren’t you going to even say hello? You’re acting like I’m a stranger.”

“Hello,” I said. I haven’t even looked at him yet. I was avoiding that like the plague. I knew our eyes would lock, just like they used to…and I can’t let this get out of hand.

“So, you’re engaged to Dominik. Why him?”

A slight fit of anger made me look up to Naheed; he’s still standing incredibly close to me.

“Why do you care?”

“Because…he’s not the one for you.”

“Ah, how ironic. That’s what my friends said about you.”

“Yeah, I remember.”

“And you still have a girlfriend…so, I guess things ended up the way they were supposed to.”

I got to him; he looked pissed. He was quiet for a minute…then sat in the chair next to me.

“Kara, I’m with her because you walked away. YOU WALKED AWAY from us,” he said loudly.

“What did you expect me to do?”

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book?

My intended audience is young women who are familiar with, or interested in, the real world upper class lives of young Washingtonians. The love stories don’t always end happily and the stories include partying and not-always-nice behavior. Some readers love it, others not so much. This book is written for mature audiences.

How did you come up with the title of your book or series?

I went through a few titles, trying to hit the mark but missing every time. Other titles were “Meant to Be” and “Unrequited”, but I finally settled on Flawed. I figured that said it all…Kara feels flawed because of her introverted personality, and her love with Naheed is flawed because things just keep getting in the way. She even calls their love flawed, so it stuck.

Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image?

I tried to design my own book cover a few times—since I self-publish, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money getting the book completed. But then I realized that the cover matters…people do judge a book by its cover! How else will they choose a book out of the hundreds available at any given time? I read a blog about the best reasonably priced book designers and picked one from that list: Damonza. They’ve designed all 5 of the books in this series. The first cover design was chosen because I felt it reflected Kara’s struggle and life—gorgeous heels dangling from her hand as she walks barefoot through the streets late at night. It seemed to fit.

Who is your favorite character from your book and why?

My favorite character is Lily. She’s strong, and caring…and very loyal. She’s not the main character, but the character is based on someone I greatly admire.

Give us an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series:

There are five books in the series now…it was meant to be just one book, but then the writing bug hit. It’s hard to tell, but some of the real-life people that the characters were based on were actually use as muses for more than one character (of different ages, perhaps), and many will continue into future books.

What's the strangest thing you have ever had to research online for your book?

I put “stalker” in a search engine once to make sure Naheed didn’t cross over the line into stalker territory. Some of the things the search found were…well, a bit scary! I made sure that none of the characters, as smitten with each other as they may be, could be accused of stalking. I write about what I, or my friends, experience so there isn’t too much to research, thankfully.

How can we contact you or find out more about your books?

My website’s a good place to start: (you can email me through the site), but I also try to post things about the books and the characters’ lifestyles on Instagram at

What can we expect from you in the future?

More romance novels in the Young and Privileged of Washington, DC series! I’m also planning to write other things, such as a couple of screenplays and perhaps a different kind of romance novel (like a new series). I have a fulltime job too…so new works take some time to get out, but I love to write so I’m sure I’ll continue to do so.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

Write a review, and share it on social media…or at least tell your friends about it! It would also be great if they’d connect with me on Instagram and Facebook so they’ll know when there are discounts and new items, as well as learn more about the characters and lifestyle of the series. I don’t post too often, but everything I post is somehow related to the series.

Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?

For readers: most self-publishers offer their books for free here & there. Please download them all and read them whenever you have time. And if you like them, please write a review…that’s the best way to pay an author back for putting their book on sale!

For writers: have a friend, if not a paid professional, to read your book and give feedback. A second set of eyes is so helpful! And do what I have the hardest time doing: market your book! Writing it isn’t even half of the battle…you need people to see, learn about, and read your book.
