Character Interview

What do you feel most passionately about?

I love the theater. I’ve always wanted to be an actress. I love losing myself into another character and telling stories on stage. I was a theater major in college and my goal is to eventually leave the Midwest and go to Hollywood to work in films and TV.

What annoys you? What makes you laugh?

Stupid men who hit on me are annoying. I’m unmarried, but for now I’m happy with that state. I want to get my career going and find the right man before I settle down, not marry the first bozo who crosses my path. A guy in town, Gus E. Monty, keeps trying to go out with me but he’s such a numbskull I‘ll never do it.

A good comedy movie makes me laugh. I especially love Laurel and Hardy and the other great silent comics. Playing board games with my friends is fun too. And the silly things my cat does make me chuckle.

What early event shaped you the most?

In eighth grade my school put on a musical, “Cinderella’s Slipper.” I was cast as Wicked Stepmother only because I was the tallest girl in the cast and I looked older than the girls playing the stepsisters. I discovered I was really good at playing comedy roles. The day after the play, my math teacher bragged to the rest of the class my performance stole the show. That’s when I wanted to be an actress. I love playing different people and frankly, I like the adulation.

If you could go back in time for one day, where would you go?

My college commencement ceremony. I earned a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in theater from Indiana State University in Terre Haute. My parents drove up from Yuletide—fortunately they left the bratty twins at home because they were too young—to see me get my diploma. They were very proud of me for my accomplishment.

What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?

During a play I had to make a quick costume change backstage and in my hurry I hadn’t buttoned my blouse all the way up! I went back on stage and one of the other actors kept starring at my chest until I realized what was going on. Good thing I had my bra on. I made a goofy ad lib and buttoned up. For the run of the show the cast teased me about my “nude scene.” From then on I always double-checked my costume before making an entrance.

What is your motto?

“Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act.” (Psalm 37:4-5 RSV).

What is your most treasured possession?

A gold heart-shaped locket that mom and dad gave me on my birthday. I wear it as often as I can. Inside are a photo of my parents and a picture of my favorite aunt.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

I solved the murder of a stranger who showed up one night on my doorstep with a bullet in his chest. You can read all about how I did that in the book “Flower Power Fatality.”

The Cold War gets cozy in this retro-cozy spy caper set in 1967, a year of music, miniskirts—and murder! Actress Noelle McNabb works at the Country Christmas Family Fun Park in Yuletide, Indiana, but she longs for the bright lights of Hollywood.
Real-life drama comes her way when a stranger with a fatal gunshot wound stumbles across her doorstep. When she attempts to finds the man’s murderer, Noelle encounters a super-secret spy agency, SIAMESE (Special Intelligence Apparatus for Midwest Enemy Surveillance and Espionage). SIAMESE recruits Noelle on a quest to find missing microdots under the guidance of a street-wise agent, Destiny King. As Noelle goes undercover in a cheesy nightclub and faces the enemy in late-night chases, she uncovers family secrets and finds her moral values put to the test. Along with her pet cat, Ceebee, and the kooky residents of Yuletide, Noelle discovers it takes a village to catch a killer.
