A Christmas Carol. In Prose. Being a Ghost Story of Christmas, commonly known as A CHRISTMAS CAROL, is a novella by Charles Dickens. That's right. A novella.

It's around 80 pages depending on the edition.

Often, when I tell people I like to read Charles Dickens' A CHRISTMAS CAROL during the winter holidays, I get weird looks. They seem to think it is a massive tome.

I am surprised at how many people are kinda sorta familiar with the storyline and characters in A CHRISTMAS CAROL, but have not read the actual story. Ebenezer Scrooge, Jacob Marley, Bob Cratchit, Tiny Tim, and the Ghosts of Christmas (Past, Present, Yet to Come) still figure heavily in today's popular culture.

A CHRISTMAS CAROL is in the public domain and free copies abound. One of my favorites is an audiobook version narrated by Glen Hallstrom for Librivox. His intro is funny, but his delivery is on point. All LibriVox audiobooks are free and in the public domain in the USA.

Divided into five staves, the audiobook's running time is under three hours (2:43:45, if you are curious). You can download it from Librivox or listen to it via YouTube. Easy-peasy, right?
