Welcome to the fourth annual Literary Loners Reading Challenge! The challenge was created by Jaime at Whatever I Can Think Of! and hosted at her blog in 2016, 2017, and 2018. She has passed the torch to me and it will be hosted here at Readeropolis this year.

2019 Literary Loners Reading Challenge

The overall goal of the reading challenge is to read more books connected with loners, outcasts, recluses, wallflowers, and introverts. The challenge will run from January 1 to December 31, 2019. There are no reading levels. You decide how many books to read.

There are three reading options for this challenge. You can choose any or all of them.
  • Read books featuring a character identified as a loner, outcast, recluse, wallflower, or introvert. This can be a main or secondary character.
  • Read works written by writers known to be outcasts, recluses, wallflowers, or introverts.
  • Read books about real people known to be outcasts, recluses, wallflowers, or introverts.

How to participate in Literary Loners:

1. Think about some books you'd like to read (or maybe re-read) this year.

This could include fiction, nonfiction, poetry collections, and plays... it's up to you! Your goal can be one book, twelve books, or even some short stories. All book formats are welcome (paper, audio, electronic, graphic novels/manga).

Need some inspiration? Check out this list of lists for book suggestions.

2. Write a blog post or social media post to tell us that you are joining the Literary Loners Reading Challenge.

You can announce your participation on your blog, favorite social network, and/or a bookish site on the 'net. Make sure to link to this blog post to spread the word. Please leave your announcement link in the comments section of this blog post. We'd love to get a sneak peek of the books you want to read for this challenge.

3. Use the hashtag #LiteraryLoners.

Please use the hashtag #LiteraryLoners when posting about the challenge so we can find your posts around the 'net. There will be optional monthly check-ins at the beginning of each month. You do not have to post reviews (though authors would really appreciate it if you did).

Feel free to use the challenge image in your announcement post and social media posts to help spread the word. Please link back to this blog.
