Author Interview

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book?

This book is for anyone who enjoys a light, humorous take on murder mysteries and small-town life. It also has a pinch of romance in it. It’s perfect for an afternoon escape!

Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image?
Kim Killion does my cover designs. I wanted a fun colorful cover that conveyed the spirit of my book  and I think she really nailed it. I also wanted my main character Lucy’s little rescue dog, Paco, featured prominently since he’s such an important part of the series.

Who is your favorite character from your book and why?

That would be my main character, Lucy McGuffin. She bakes the best muffins in Whispering Bay, but she’s also got a hidden “gift.” She’s a human lie-detector, something that helps her fight crime. She’s also loyal, funny, and someone I’d love to have as a best friend.

How about your least favorite character?  What makes them less appealing to you?

I don’t have a least favorite character because every character in the book has their specific role in the story. Without them, something would be “off.” I especially love my villains. They always have the best dialogue!

How can we contact you or find out more about your books?

You can contact me at You can also find out more about my books on my website

What can we expect from you in the future?

I’m excited to be releasing three more Whispering Bay mysteries this year that will continue the adventures of Lucy and her little dog, Paco. I’ll also be releasing a new romantic comedy series titled Undercover Matchmakers.

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?

Tell their friends! Word of mouth is the single most effective way to help an author. Similarly, writing reviews on popular sites like Amazon, Goodreads and Bookbub help tremendously.

Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?
The best advice I can give any aspiring author is to write. Voraciously. The more you write, the better you become. You also have to complete a story. I know so many writers who spend years on the same story but never actually finish anything. It’s not until you finish the story that the hard part comes in—the editing. But if writing is something you love doing, then never give up.

Is there anything else you’d like to say?

Thanks so much for having me here today!

The first book in a fun, quirky chick-lit mystery series featuring Lucy McGuffin, world's best muffin maker and amateur sleuth.

Everyone agrees that Lucy McGuffin bakes the best muffins in Whispering Bay, but she’s got another talent, one that she’s tried her whole life to hide. Lucy can always tell when a person is lying or telling the truth. Being a human lie detector isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Especially when you don’t really want the answer to the universal question: Does this dress make my butt look too big?

When Lucy is hired to cater the grand opening celebration of the city’s new community center, she stumbles across the dead body of Abby Delgado, a prominent member of the Sunshine Ghost Society. Lucy’s brother, Father Sebastian, a local priest, is the last person to have seen Abby alive. Convinced he’ll be breaking a confidence, Sebastian refuses to cooperate with the police, forcing Lucy to put her skills to the test to save her brother’s good name.

Enter the town’s new hotshot deputy, Travis Fontaine. Travis doesn’t want an amateur like Lucy snooping around his turf, so he offers her a deal. He’ll stay out of her kitchen if she’ll stay away from his crime scene. But Lucy isn’t about to let her brother’s fate rest in the hands of an arrogant cop. Good thing she has her best friend Will and her new little rescue dog, Paco, to back her up, because its up to Lucy to figure out what everyone in the quaint little beachside town is hiding.
