Author Interview

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book?

My intended audience is anyone who likes a good whodunnit with some romance thrown in. Not a lot of violence, more talked about than not. And there’s not much sex or dirty words, either. In short, I try to write a fun read that is packed with mystery, intrigue, and characters who have a few issues to work out. I like to think people who need a little diversion that is well written and positive in nature will want to read my book(s).

How did you come up with the title of your book or series?
It evolved. I came up with Christmas Trifle first. I like the double meaning, a dessert and a tidbit of frippery (I love that word, ‘frippery’). Then I created the small ski resort town of Snow Lake, Nevada, which was not as easy as it sounds. In my mind I envisioned a thermal lake where falling snow ‘danced’ upon it. I decided to name the series after that vision. I’d like to find a real lake like that one of these days.

Tell us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image?
I designed it myself. I like to do all my covers with a little help from my friends. This time, my friend, Tricia Greenwood, helped me work out some problem spots, so much so I gave her credit in the book. She’s a very talented artist, so of course, I listened to her.

Who is your favorite character from your book and why?
That would have to be Pearl Avery, the protagonist’s aunt. She is a Truthsayer. I try to have at least one of those characters in each of my novels.

How about your least favorite character?  What makes them less appealing to you?
Any character in one of my books is there for a reason. And I’m like a mother, I love all of them. I guess I am bound to say my least favorite would have to be the villain, because he or she does a few dastardly things, but I shall not name names at this point. When the readers discovers him or her, please remember: this is supposedly my least favorite person. Although maybe not. I try to give them very strong reasons as to why they do what they do.

How can we contact you or find out more about your books? Visit my website at: www:heatherhavenstories.com or my Amazon Author page at: https://www.amazon.com/Heather-Haven/e/B004QL22UK?ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_2&qid=1561488310&sr=1-2

What can readers who enjoy your book do to help make it successful?
Leave a review, even if it’s only three words! Reviews are very important to any author, and all you have to spend time writing is something like, “I enjoyed it” and then give some stars. Of course, be honest. If you didn’t enjoy it, say so!

Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?
Do  it. Life is short. Join a writers organization, like Sisters in Crime or Mystery Writers of America. I belong to both orgs and they have been invaluable to me.

Is there anything else you’d like to say?
You can preorder Christmas Trifle at: https://tinyurl.com/y44tjy4s and I thank you!

When chefs Charly and Cliff Harding divorce, she gets custody of their upscale restaurant and its namesake, Felix, the cat. He gets custody of their dog, Oscar. What they both still have custody of is each other’s heart. But they seem to be the only two people in the small ski resort town of Snow Lake, Nevada, that don’t know it.

When Cliff opens his own restaurant in direct competition with Charly, bad things start to happen. Death threats, accidents, and murder are now on the menu. Their ‘if-you-can’t-take-the-heat-then-get-out-of-the-kitchen’ battles are backfiring, and regrets consume the two of them. But can they find their way back to each other? Or is it too late? Because they just might spend the rest of their lives in prison unjustly accused of killing someone. Or can love triumph over even murder?
