How long have you been writing?
I’ve penned my first romance novella in July 2019.

Do the characters all come to you at the same time or do some of them come to you as you write?
Some characters come to me as I write. I believe an author’s story never finishes how initially attended.

What kind of research do you do before you begin writing a book?
The current manuscript I’m working on is about a track star that lives on a sweet potato farm in North Carolina. I researched track and field and sweet potato farms to provide accurate information in my story.

Do you see writing as a career?
Yes, I do, it just has to be able to pay the bills.

What do you think about the current publishing market?
It’s very hard and expensive, but most authors don’t make a profit. You have to be resilient to become an author.

Do you read yourself and if so what is your favorite genre?
Romance will always be my favorite genre.

Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
I can actually write while watching a movie lol.

Do you write one book at a time or do you have several going at a time?
One book at a time, I don’t have the brain power to attempt 2.

If you could have been the author of any book ever written, which book would you choose?
Pride and Prejudice, I love that story!

Pen or typewriter or computer?
My first manuscript was entirely done by hand because I didn’t have a computer. Once I purchased one I was able to type it. I prefer a computer.

Tell us about a favorite character from a book.
Maverick because the battle he has with his self is epic.

What made you want to become an author and do you feel it was the right decision?
I love entertaining people and I can do that through my books. Sometimes I do ask myself “what are you doing?” Becoming a self-published author isn’t easy. It takes finances, time, persistence, and consistency.

Advice they would give new authors.
Complete research first, take your time, and don’t force yourself to write, take a break if needed.

What makes a good story?
The element of surprise. No one wants to read stories form different authors but with the same plot. There needs to be twist and turns.

What are they currently reading?
I’m not currently reading anything. I’m working hard on a duet but hopefully I catch up on some reading soon.

What is your writing process? For instance, do you do an outline first? Do you do the chapters first?
I like to outline the story first then research second. I like for my manuscripts to be as realistic as possible.

What are common traps for aspiring writers?
Thinking they can edit their manuscript on their own. I tried that and it was a huge mistake.

What is your writing Kryptonite?
Sometimes I think I can be overly detailed in descriptions.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
I’m a wild card. I like writing unconventional dark romances that make readers uncomfortable.

If you could tell your younger writing self-anything, what would it be?
Do research first! Have your manuscripts professionally edited and proofread several times. Take the time to develop your stories more.

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
I don’t really understand how a man thinks because I’m not a man so I can only assume how my male MC should react to a certain situation.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?
It takes me about 2 months to finish a manuscript.

Do you believe in writer’s block?
Yes, I do, sometimes it can take me a few days up to a week to write a scene.

I Like the Way You Hurt
A Dark Interracial High School Bully Romance
by Lorrain Allen
Genre: Dark Romance
Publication Date: December 6, 2019

After the tragic death of her father several years ago, Cocoa’s mother has finally found love again. Cocoa is uprooted from Los Angeles, California to a small town in West Virginia before the start of her senior year. Though she’s not enthusiastic about the move, she’s very excited that her mother has found the will to love again. Cocoa meets Maverick prior to the first day of school. Cocoa is biracial and is everything Maverick has been taught to hate. Though Maverick hates her on sight, a fire burns between them that could destroy both of their worlds, leaving them in ashes. Cocoa can sense the hurt and anger in Maverick wanting to burst free and consume everything in its path. Will Cocoa be the one person that can soothe Maverick’s soul before he self-destructs?

Maverick’s mother committed suicide to escape her abusive husband, leaving six-year-old Maverick to face the fists of his father alone. The only things Maverick can relate to are power, control, pain, and anger. He doesn’t know how to love. He’s afraid of the feelings that Cocoa stirs in him because he’s not supposed to want her with a fever that burns so bright that it leaves him aching. The only way he knows how to control his feelings is to destroy Cocoa and make her hurt.

WARNING: This book contains strong sexual content and triggers. The subject matter is very brutal. Readers beware. This book isn’t for sensitive individuals.

This is a standalone book.

Book Trailer

Lorrain has enjoyed writing ever since she was a child and was also part of the poetry club in middle school. She loves to get away from the world and lose herself in a book. As a young adult, she became a romance book junky and was inspired to pen her first romance by the many creative authors whose books she's read. She wants to provide her fans with a suspenseful read that has a twist at the end. The subject matters of her books are a little controversial, but life is boring without a little controversy.
