SECRETS AND LIES: A Claire Callahan Mystery by P.H. Turner is on virtual book tour with Great Escapes Book Tours. The tour stops at Readeropolis with an author interview and a giveaway. Enjoy!

Author Interview

Who is your intended audience, and why should they read your book?
I got the bug to write while commuting to work in Denver on the light rail. Most women boarded the train and pulled out a book or an e-reader. With the demands of a job and a family pulling at us, the time on the train was the only "me" time for most of us. I want my books to give them a break from their responsibilities and to entertain them.
Who is your favorite character from your book, and why?
Claire Callahan is a young woman private investigator working for a prestigious law firm in Denver. She has what my grandmother would call gumption. Claire fails, gets up, and tries again.
Claire was dumped on her grandmother by her parents when she was six. By the time she was seven, she had quit waiting for her mom and dad to return.
Her grandmother Callie didn't have a lot of material wealth to share and never thought she'd be a parent again, but Grandma Callie and Claire became a family.
Readers of J.A. Jance's Joanna Brady mysteries will enjoy the Claire Callahan series. Both Joanna and Claire come from financially pinched single-parent homes, and both become strong women. Both have a robust personal code of behavior, they're tough but fair, keep their promises, and live with courage.
Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?
Write. Fail. Get better. Submit your work. Get rejected. Work harder and resubmit.
Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?
I've been photographing the National Parks for years, and I'm still learning about the art of photography. I belong to several Facebook photography groups, and the photographs they post on the site inspire me to work harder.
What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
We were producing a live news show. The person to be interviewed was a female representative elected to the statehouse. We're ready. The opening credits roll. Instead of our regular music playing, Lay, Lady Lay, across my big Brass Bed, comes pouring out of the sound system. She hears it, jerks off her microphone, and stomps off the set. Live TV…gotta love it.
What early event shaped you the most?
My father's illness and his inability to work. My mother became the breadwinner. Watching her shaped my view of what a woman can accomplish.
My greatest accomplishment is raising my two children, who now have families of their own. Our lives aren't perfect and certainly aren't without their challenges, but we are family.
What can we expect from you in the future?
Claire's working on solving the murder of a well-known director found murdered in the college theater.
How can we contact you or find out more about your books?

Shot to death in his home, Morgan Tutwiler leaves behind a multimillion-dollar business and a daughter who hasn’t spoken to him in years. And she isn’t alone in wanting him dead. Plenty of people wanted the most hated man in Denver dead in P. H. Turner’s latest novel in the Claire Callahan series.

Reminiscent of the finest gumshoe storytelling, Secrets and Lies, would not be complete without Turner’s signature quirky characters and inventive plot.

About P.H. Turner
P.H. Turner writes mystery and suspense novels set in the mountains and canyons of the West where she grew up and spent most of her working life.
