What are your top 10 favorite books/authors?

Neil Gaimen – Stardust

Gillian Flynn – all her books!

Cassandra Clare – The Mortal Instruments

Holly Black – Ironside Series

Janice Godin – Islander Romance

Tanith Frost – Immortal Soulless series

J. Margot Critch – the only Harlequin author I like to read! LOL I’m not a huge fan of HQ stories but her writing is witty and fun.

Anna Kendrick – Scrappy Little Nobody

Stephenie Meyer – Twilight series (come at me, bro!)

Ruth Ware – everything she writes!

What book do you think everyone should read?
Stardust by Neil Gaimen

How long have you been writing?
All my life. But, professionally, about 10 years. Woah…I feel old now.

Do you read yourself and if so what is your favorite genre?
Although I write Fantasy Romance, I LOVE to read Thriller. It’s my fav genre to read. But I also enjoy Urban Fantasy and non-fiction by my fav celebs.

Do you prefer to write in silence or with noise? Why?
Both, kind of. I need no distractions, but I require music. It helps me get in the mind space. I also have playlists for certain kinds of scenes to “set the mood”.

Do you write one book at a time or do you have several going at a time?
I TRY to write one at a time, but that never happens. I’m currently writing The Gilded Stone while also writing the second book in mine and Rebecca Hamilton’s A Touch of Darkness Series.

Pen or typewriter or computer?
I plot and make notes with pen and paper. For some reason, that’s how my brain works. Then I transfer it all to my computer and start writing.

What made you want to become an author and do you feel it was the right decision?
I always wanted to be a writer; I just didn’t know how to make that happen at first. Eventually, my life just sort of morphed into a clear path to my goals and dreams, I just had to follow and trust it. It’s, hands down, the best decision of my life.

A day in the life of the author?
I think every author’s life is different. But, for me, I get up. Get my kids off to school. Then I hunker down with snacks, music, and my laptop. I write until the kids come home and then I switch to Mom Mode.

Advice they would give new authors?
Read, read, read. Study your craft in the words of others. Always accept criticism. You don’t have to USE it, just accept that others will give it. Don’t rush things. And never compare yourself or your writing to other authors. Find inspiration in them, just don’t compare.

Describe your writing style.
Plot driven, angsty, hopeful. My motto is “Dark Souls, Warm Hearts” if that gives you any indication LOL

What makes a good story?
One that keeps readers flipping pages. Make them ask questions, wonder about things. Also, quirky characters who you fall in love with.

What’s the most difficult thing about writing characters from the opposite sex?
That I’m…the opposite sex. LOL It’s hard to get in the mind of a guy when you’re not one. But I like to people watch, and I observe the behavior of the men in my life every day. I think I do a fairly good job of conveying that on paper.

How long on average does it take you to write a book?
2-3 months. Tops.

Do you believe in writer’s block?
Oh, yes. It exists, not question about it. But I’s often due to a series of life stuff, not just one thing. When my kids are sick, or I’m swamped, I find it harder to “get into” the story. I find removing myself rom it for a few days and clearing my head with a good book helps immensely.

Make a choice. Go back in time. Save them from the devil…

What good is a happily ever after if it’s all ripped away by the hands of a devilish siren?

When Dianna’s children go missing, she and Henry are left with no choice but to do something they swore they’d never do again…travel back to the 1700s. But with their children’s lives in the hands of an unpredictable siren, they must make a hasty decision; trust that the sea creature will return their kids…or find a way to go back in time and risk never coming home again.

They soon realize they’ll have to travel further than they’ve ever gone; beyond our world to the mythical realm of Faerie to save their children. A task easier said than done. The rumored entrance lays across the ocean. They needed a ship.
And a crew…

In hopes of saving the family they started in the future, Dianna and Henry must search for the family they left behind in the past and travel across the sea to an unknown world. But four years is a long time and things aren’t quite as they left them.

Can they sail across the sea and uncover the entrance to Faerie before it’s too late? Or will they find themselves broken hearted and lost in time with nowhere to go?
