An Accidental Author: Or is this Fate?
Do you believe in fate? Think about it for a second. How did you get here, right now? What series of events led you to read this blog post? Probably thousands of random events that you may not even have had control over. But you’re here. So, before I talk about myself, allow me to acknowledge our connection. After all, a million random events also led me to this moment and the words I share with you are a product of those random events.
You probably have no idea who I am. So, let me begin by introducing myself. All my books come with the author name: Elle W Silver. But this is a penname, an alter ego- who I feel I am when I write my books. In reality Elizabeth Gathu (my real name) and Elle W Silver are vastly different- on two separate worlds.
I was born just over 33 years ago in the most randomly insane places in the world. I say insane, because there is absolutely nothing in background that even remotely suggested I would be doing this right now. This place that was home for most of my childhood was broken by poverty, disease, lack and limitation. It is the world’s largest slum in the Kenyan Capital of Nairobi, East Africa.
Looking back, it is difficult to see how a young African girl growing up in one of the most disheartening places in the world, could choose a career in writing; much less have some success at it. My parents, most of the society I grew up in didn’t read or even have bookshelves at home. The school I went to didn’t have a library; neither was there a library or even a bookstore anywhere near me. But I found a way to find books. Or rather, I should say, books found their way to me and when they didn’t, I’d read whatever I could get my hands on.
When I turned 13, my parents sent me to an all-girls Catholic boarding school and the first thing to catch my attention was the tiny library they had. By my first semester there I had read every book in the library and fallen in love with Sidney Sheldon, Francine Pascal and Anne Rice and been introduced to Shakespeare. At the time, I had no idea that the hours I spent alone in a corner when all the other girls talked boys and makeup were leading me to my inevitable destiny; this moment.
At 15, in an effort to give voice to the characters swimming around in my subconscious, I wrote my first novel. I used an old notebook my sister had given me to pen a story about a young man with special abilities who would have to save the world. There was no hope of the story ever being published or anyone other than my English teacher reading it, but I felt compelled to write it, spending hours every night after class on it.
Years later in my twenties, having long given up on the possibility of a career as a romance novelist, I had to find ways to make ends meet. But as fate would have it, I would become a freelance writer. But the characters in my head never stopped pushing me to give them an outlet. Out here, there is no publishing contract to chase, so when it became apparent that I didn’t need any of that to share my stories, I chose self-publishing.
Saying that as I young girl I dreamt of big publishing contracts or my characters coming to life on the big screen is incorrect. At every turn, writing found me. Even when I had every justification to quit, it wouldn’t let me.
This is why you’re reading this right now. This is why, you may have seen my first self-published novel “Broken Triangle” and every time someone tells me they loved it, I am fulfilled.

Growing up Elle was the girl sitting in a corner with her nose in a book. For as long as she could remember, she would journey to different destinations around the world with the characters she met in the many books she read.

So when she turned fifteen, it was not surprising that she found herself ready to create her own world of characters. The Paranormal world was particularly intriguing, especially immortal vampires and the humans sharing their fascinating existence.

Her first book was not published and got lost somewhere in the midst of her life. Her love of stories- literature, Movies and TV,only intensified as she got older, becoming a major part of her life.

Soon, she would find herself working as a freelance writer (a girl has to pay her bills) all the while sharing her life with voices in her head that screamed for an outlet. She saw an opportunity to give life to her characters when she stumbled on self-publishing and her first Paranormal romance series- The Eternal Flame Series was born.

A tea addict, Elle also has a powerful love for Music and her ever expanding Family. She is overjoyed to share her love for Romance with all her readers and grateful for their unending support.
