What inspired you to write this book?
I had a dissociation once due to my illness. The book is inspired by a fantasy that I had during a short period of time.

What can we expect from you in the future?
The duet novel of The Name of Red is releasing on July 15, 2020. It’s called The Weight on Skin, and it’s on pre-order.

Do you have any “side stories” about the characters?
All of the characters in my book will get their own book  in the series.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Name of Red?
The main character of the story is Kabir. He’s a humble, shy, reserved, and submissive man. He meets a woman who goes by the name Red. She is funny, bold, and more dominating. The bartender is Aryan who is Kabir’s close friend. There is also Nadia and Samar, the twins who are also part of his squad. This is not an erotica novel, it’s a novel about trauma and learning to heal from it.

How did you come up with the title of your first novel?
I didn’t have a name for the heroine until halfway through the story, that’s where the title comes in, The Name of Red.

Who designed your book covers?
Her name is Les. She’s a German book cover artist. She is amazing!

Are your characters based on real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?
The hero is based on my husband. The heroine is based on me.

Have you written any other books that are not published?
I’m currently working on a fictional project about an elite academy besides this series. It’s currently a work in progress.

The Name of Red
by Beena Khan
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Literary Fiction

Two strangers on the same path.
Survivors. Companions.
They will be each other’s salvation.

On a rainy, winter night, a mysterious woman in a red dress seeking shelter comes inside the restaurant Kabir was busy working in —primarily the bar— and night after night, drink after drink, she comes back to the same spot. That is where he sees her for the first time.

Hundreds of patrons around her try to speak with her daily, but she dismisses them. It appears she wants to remain in a blissful peace alone with her booze and books. After seeing the mysterious woman reading a book, and because of his shy nature, Kabir gains entrance into her life by anonymously leaving books with notes for her.

The Name of Red is the story of two strangers, two different personalities who meet on a winter, rainy night who challenge each other. They have a connection which blossoms into a friendship due to their fondness of books. But they both have secrets that can bind them together or threaten their newfound relationship forever.

This can be read as a standalone book.

  1. Readers usually like books about people who like books, so you might already have a built-in audience. :) Good luck with this!
